2015年，中国已超越美国成为全球最大的电动汽车市场（「China overtook the US in 2015 to become the world's biggest market for electric cars.」），并于2017年底宣布延长对新能源车辆徵车辆购置税至2020年。

「Overtook」为「overtake」的过去式，这字有超过的意思。其实，我们也可以在上文用「surpass」一字来替代「overtake」，即「China surpassed the US in 2015 to become the world's biggest market for electric cars.」

「surpass」有超越的意思。

除了电动汽车市场外，中国更有可能较预期早两年，即于2022年超越美国成为全球最大的航空运输市场（「China is likely to surpass the US as the world's biggest air travel market by as early as 2022, two years quicker than a previous prediction.」）。

不跟其他经济体比较，笔者读报得知深圳去年录得逾2万亿人民币的国内生产总值，当中四成来自创新产业，如科网、生物科技及电讯。这无疑是深圳经济发展的一个里程碑，内地生产总值增加了8.8%，带动整个珠江三角洲的发展（「Shenzhen has marked an economic milestone, surpassing the 2 trillion yuan GDP mark with 8.8 per cent growth in 2017」.）。
